NMH405 Detailed Features
Media Hub
Are you tired of searching across multiple PCs in multiple directories to find the picture, song, or video you want? Not just an external hard drive, the Linksys by Cisco Media Hub is an intelligent peripheral that gathers and organizes your photos, music, and videos so you can store, access, protect, and share them – from anywhere. The difference between the Media Hub and a simple USB hard drive is the difference between a shoebox jammed with snapshots and a self-filling, self-organizing, always-ready-to-enjoy photo album. And what the Media Hub does for pictures, it does for music and videos, too.
Don't Just Store, Enjoy Your Media
Simply connect the Media Hub to your home network via Gigabit or 10/100 Ethernet. Run the Media Importer software on your Windows or Mac computers, choosing the folders you want to copy to the Media Hub. All your media files -- photos, music, and video -- are automatically copied, indexed, and presented in an attractive "catalog view" in the Media Browser, so you can browse your digital memories organized by media type, and sorted by name, date, folder, etc. Afterward, the Importer keeps the Media Hub's collection up-to-date by continuously monitoring the designated media directories on your PCs and copying any new files that appear to the Hub.
The Media Hub can also "crawl" the UPnP AV servers it finds on your network, to index and aggregate the digital media in your home, without physically copying it to the Hub. These files are indexed, sorted, and shown in the Media Browser, just like the files that are on the Media Hub itself.
At home...
Once the Media Hub has collected and/or indexed your media, you can enjoy it from any PC, TV (with appropriate UPnP AV digital media adapter), or media player (Xbox360, PlayStation 3, digital picture frame, etc.) in the house. The Media Hub is a DLNA 1.5 certified stand-alone media server -- you don't need to leave a PC on 24/7 to be able to access your media anytime. The server supports almost any file format imaginable:
- Audio: M4A, M4B, MP4, 3GP, WAV, OGG, FLAC, AAC, MP2, AC3, MPA, MP1, AIF, ASF
- Photo: PNG, TIF, TIFF, BMP, GIF
- Video: MP1, MPG, SPTS, MP4, AVI, VOB, DivX, 3GP, VDR, MPE, DVR-MS, Xvid, M1V, M4V, MOV, MPV
- Playlists: M3U, M3U8, PLS, WPL
The Media Hub even shows up as a shared device when you run iTunes, anywhere in the house -- just click and play.
... and away
But you don't have to be at home to enjoy your digital media. With the Cisco Remote Access Service1, there are no confusing network addresses to remember. Log onto your Media Hub with a web browser using your chosen personalized "name" (i.e., "Smith-Media"), and you can enjoy your media through the Internet. You get the same easy-to-use attractive catalog view, and can listen to your music, view your pictures, or watch your videos, from anywhere.
Protect Your Digital Memories
Store
The NMH405 Media Hub comes with one 500 gigabyte green-power hard drive pre-installed -- enough space for up to 100,000 songs, 150,000 photos, or 200 DVD-quality movies2. And, you can drop a readily-available SATA hard drive into the second drive bay for even more storage as your collection grows.
You can use the second drive as additional space for your files (JBOD mode), or set it up to "mirror" the main drive. In this RAID1 mode, any files that are saved to the main drive are automatically also copied to the second drive, so you have a continuously-updated backup copy of all your files if anything goes wrong with either drive.
Collect
The Media Hub has two USB ports so you can copy files to and from your flash drives or external USB hard drives. There are also flash card slots to accept all common digital camera memory cards (CF, MD, MS, SD, SDHC, XD, and MMC are supported). The Media Hub imports pictures from flash cards into dated folders, quickly and easily. Just slip the card in the appropriate slot, push a few buttons on the Media Hub, and your pictures are imported, cataloged, and ready to view -- with no need to start up your computer. The Media Hub makes importing pictures so easy, you're bound to take more pictures, and get more great shots!
Backup
The Media Hub comes with backup capabilities to give you peace of mind by helping to protect your digital media and other files. Start a backup anytime from the front panel of the Media Hub, or schedule backups at regular intervals, so you don't have to remember.
The Media Hub helps keep your treasured memories safe, too, with automatic or on-demand backups of media and other files stored on any of the PCs in your home. Schedule regular backups or start a backup any time from the front panel of the Media Hub. You can backup your PC files to the Media Hub, or backup the Media Hub files to one of your PCs.
Control
The Media Hub's full-color LCD screen and navigation buttons let you initiate backups, import flash cards, see alerts, check on hard drive usage, view status, and more, all without the need to start up your computer.
Intelligent Storage
Let the Cisco Media Hub store, access, protect, and share your digital media!
