Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How do I know if a Wireless Home Audio component will work with my existing stereo system or home theater?
A: The Director and Player can be added to any stereo or home theater system with an available S/PDIF (fiber optical), RCA connection or mini-jack in (fiber optical cable not included)
Q: I’d like to buy a Linksys by Cisco Wireless Home Audio device but I don’t know if it’s compatible with my current router.
A: Linksys by Cisco Wireless Home Audio components are compatible with most available Wireless-G or Wireless-N routers. However, if you have multiple users sharing numerous media files or other bandwidth intensive applications on your home network we recommend using a Dual-N Band Wireless Router.
Q: What is the difference between the Player and Director?
A: The Director has an integrated amplifier, so it is capable of delivering rich, full sound to bookshelf or tower speakers in your home theater system. It also has a 3.5” color LCD screen. The Player does not have an integrated amplifier and relies on either connection to a receiver with built-in amplifier or connection to powered PC speakers.
Q: Will my Linksys by Cisco Wireless Home Audio component work with my Wireless-G Router?
A: Yes. Linksys by Cisco Wireless Home Audio components use the latest Wireless-N technology, but they are compatible with any Wireless-G router. However, a Wireless-N router will deliver better performance. If you have multiple users sharing numerous media files or other bandwidth intensive applications on your home network we recommend using a Dual-N Band Wireless Router.
Q: Will my Linksys by Cisco Wireless Home Audio component work with my Wireless Router from another manufacturer?
A: Linksys by Cisco Wireless Home Audio components are compatible with most other Wireless-N and Wireless-G routers.
Q: Why would I need more than one Conductor / Wireless-N Digital Music Center, Player / Wireless-N Music Extender, or Director / Wireless-N Music Player?
A: You can use multiple Directors or Players to extend your digital music collection, online music services or Internet radio to more rooms in your home to stream the same content to all rooms or even music from different sources to different rooms.
Q: I want music in two rooms of my home. What do I need?
A: We recommend a Director or Conductor for the room with your stereo or home theater equipment, and a Player to extend your music to the other room. You can then add a Player for each additional room you want music in.
Q: What is Party Mode?
A: Party Mode allows you to link up all of your Wireless Home Audio devices in precise synchronization to play the same music throughout your home.
Q: What is the difference between the IR Remote Control and the Controller - Wireless-N Touchscreen Remote?
A: The Controller Touchscreen Remote features a touchscreen LCD display and scroll wheel/selector for quick and easy navigation to songs, music zones, music sources and other controls. It’s also a Wireless-N device and has more functionality than the simple IR (infrared) Remote. The Controller wirelessly connects to your router, enabling you fully control your Linksys by Cisco Wireless Home Audio devices wherever you are or wherever they are on your home network. The IR Remote control must be used within line-of-sight of the device it is controlling.
Q: The IR Remote description says it does not work with all features. Why?
A: The IR Remote doesn’t have a user interface screen so when used with a Player certain features such as adding favorites need to be configured with the Controller or through Cisco Media Player software on a PC.
Q: I have a Wireless-G router. Should I upgrade to Wireless-N for Wireless Home Audio?
A: We recommend a Linksys by Cisco Wireless-N router for optimum performance.
Q: What is Rhapsody?
A: Rhapsody is a subscription-based online music service offering streaming on-demand access to millions of songs from around the world.
Q: What is RadioTime?
A: RadioTime provides free streaming on-demand access to thousands of music and talk radio stations around the world.
Q: Will the Director support a powered speaker system?
A: The Director can be connected to powered speakers using the RCA outputs on the back. A standard analog RCA output allows for connection to a subwoofer.
Q: Will Linksys by Cisco Wireless Home Audio components work with my stereo receiver?
A: The Director and Player will work with any receiver that has available standard RCA Audio In jacks or an S/PDIF (fiber optical) connection. The Conductor, Director and the Player can accept audio inputs from external sources such as a receiver as well.
Q: Can I play my iTunes library on a Wireless Home Audio device?
A: The optional Linksys by Cisco Docking Station for iPod (MCCI40) will allow you to connect your iPod to a Director or Conductor and play back all of the songs from your iPod. Without the Docking Station some iTunes files stored on a PC may not be available. Songs purchased from iTunes may be protected with Digital Rights Management (DRM); DRM-protected files cannot be played to a Wireless Home Audio device directly from a PC. Note: *iTunes Plus files are not protected.
Q: How is music organized in Wireless Home Audio devices?
A: You can view your music in several ways. The music library will display an alphabetical list by, Artist, Album, Genre or Track.
Q: What type of audio equipment can I connect to a Linksys by Cisco Wireless Home Audio device?
A: You can connect digital devices that have an S/PDIF (fiber optical) connection such as a DAT tape machine. You can connect any digital audio device that has an RCA output jack, such as a CD player or receiver; satellite radio receiver, even VCR, DVD and DVR players (although you won’t be able to connect the video from these devices). You can also connect analog audio devices such as a turntable or cassette tape deck as long as it has an RCA output.
